NRECA International Programs
Utility Operations and Management

NRECA International provides comprehensive training programs in all aspects of utility operations and management to ensure that local institutions can effectively and efficiently operate and administer a functioning and economically viable utility. In projects where new cooperatives are being created, NRECA International is often called upon to provide management and operational oversight, including system maintenance, commercial functions such as billing and collections, customer service, etc. for an interim period while training new utility personnel on the job. Once staff is properly trained, NRECA International then turns the day to day operations over to the newly formed cooperative or utility. NRECA International often provides training for newly formed boards of directors in their respective roles and responsibilities, policies and procedures.

NRECA International is currently providing utility management and training services as part of the Economic Recovery through Rehabilitation of Electric Service project that is being conducted in the Southern Sudanese capital of Juba. The Project, financed by USAID, also includes system reconstruction and rehabilitation. The combination of improvements to the physical utility infrastructure and program of utility personnel training, managerial oversight, and introduction of consumer information software technology is expected to significantly reduce technical and non-technical losses, increase efficiency, and reduce operating costs, and increase access to electricity among residents and businesses in Juba.
