NRECA International, Ltd. & NRECA International Foundation
For 45 years, NRECA International Programs has provided people in developing countries with access to safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. These electrification programs have resulted in increased agricultural productivity, millions of new jobs in micro and small enterprises, and higher incomes and quality of life for rural communities in over 42 countries around the world.
NRECA International Programs is comprised of two distinct entities: NRECA International, Ltd. and the NRECA International Foundation.
NRECA International, Ltd.
NRECA International, Ltd. (NRECA International) has been at the forefront of international rural economic development through electrification since its inception in 1962.
The rural electrification programs that NRECA International has established in Latin America, Africa and Asia have provided over 100 million people in over 42 developing countries with access to safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. NRECA International has designed, constructed, and operated hundreds of rural electric utilities, while building local institutional capacity—including the training of personnel—to own and manage them.
NRECA International, Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and maintains its headquarters at NRECA’s offices in Arlington, VA. NRECA International has offices in six countries and is currently engaged in rural electrification projects in eleven countries.
NRECA International Foundation
The NRECA International Foundation partners with U.S. electric cooperatives and others to electrify rural villages and foster economic development, improving the lives of people in developing countries. The Foundation was created in 1985 and has provided millions of dollars in funding, donated equipment, and volunteer personnel to electrify villages and share lessons from the U.S. electric cooperative experience with electric cooperatives in developing countries.
