COSERV Electric Donates Utility Truck to Guatemalan Municipality to Promote Rural Electrification
Corinth, Texas – August 31, 2007 – CoServ Electric recently partnered with the NRECA (National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) in arranging a donation of a CoServ utility truck to a rural electrification effort in Guatemala.  With over 40 years of experience, the NRECA International Program is committed to contributing to economic development and to improving the well-being of rural populations through the provision of affordable electric power supplied by sustainable, well-managed utility systems.
CoServ’s contact at NRECA, Ingrid Hunsicker, stated, “We chose the Guatemalan municipality of Quetzaltenango because they are one of the largest energy munis in the country, but more importantly, because their organization has committed to opening their board of directors to member representatives; to operating in a cooperative, structured, responsible format; and to functioning as a consumer-based utility. And, we appreciate CoServ Electric’s patience in making this donation a reality.”
Dennis Engelke, CoServ Director of Member and Employee Relations, states, “Many people living in third-world countries are existing in conditions much like the U.S. experienced 70 years ago before President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Act. Because CoServ realizes the significant need for funding and equipment in communities less fortunate, we’re proud to reach across so many miles in a goodwill effort to assist people who will be grateful for the gift of electricity and its benefit to their rural community.&rdquo
A representative from Quetzaltenango flew to DFW yesterday and met with CoServ to receive training in the safe operation of the vehicle, a bucket truck valued at $32,000.00 which was scheduled for retirement and would normally be sent to auction. CoServ’s Jacob Moreno volunteered to assist in translation and conduct safety training, and once the title transfer documents are finalized this morning, we will bid farewell to our new friend he as embarks Friday morning from the CoServ headquarters on a 1300 mile road trip to deliver the bucket truck to its new home.
CoServ Electric, an electric cooperative headquartered in Corinth, serves approximately 115,000 member-owners by providing electric service through nearly 135,000 meters in parts of six counties of the
Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. CoServ’s vision is to be trusted to consistently exceed members' and customers’ expectations for safety, reliability, service, value and community support.
