Electric and NRECA International Donate Transformers and Computers to the Philippines
(CoServ, December 26, 2007)

Corinth, Texas – December 26, 2007 – CoServ Electric recently partnered with the NRECA International Foundation (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) in arranging donations of pole mount transformers and computer equipment to the Philippines. With over 40 years of experience, the NRECA International Programs is committed to contributing to economic development and to improving the well-being of rural populations through the provision of affordable electric power supplied by sustainable, well-managed utility systems.

While CoServ donated 70 transformers, NRECA donated five pallet loads of computer equipment. NRECA representative Ingrid Hunsicker, stated, “As part of the Sister Cooperative Program between Big Rivers Electric ( Kentucky) and the Filipino cooperative Dasuresco, they will receive the transformers and sell them to other local co-ops. The proceeds will help villages receive electricity and will provide funds for livelihood projects. The funds are also used to make low-interest loans to people who cannot afford an electric connection fee. To date, we have electrified 29 villages, and in 2008, we intend to help 6 other villages with electricity and projects. The computers will be donated to under-funded public schools and to a rural teachers’ college. We appreciate CoServ Electric’s generosity in donating the transformers and in arranging for the transport of that equipment and the computers donated by NRECA.”

Hardworking CoServ employees Geoff Tarwater, Mike Perrin, Michael Bird, Bret Pannell, Kenny Schreiner, Dwayne Lyon and Josh Sterling offered their time and energy to carefully load the heavy equipment onto a semi trailer that set off for the port of Los Angeles where the equipment will be loaded onto a ship bound for the Philippines. Dennis Engelke, CoServ director of member and employee relations, states, “Many people in the Philippines are existing in conditions much like the U.S. experienced 70 years ago before President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Act. Because CoServ realizes the significant need for funding and equipment in communities less fortunate, CoServ utilized the highest industry standards in selecting the transformers being donated to the NRECA International Program. We’re proud to reach across so many miles in a goodwill effort to assist people who will be grateful for the gift of electricity and its benefit to their rural community.”
