Lending a Helping Hand: Missouri and Nevada volunteers in Sudan
(NRECA International Foundation, March 28, 2008)

This past January, six volunteers traveled from Missouri and Nevada to Sudan, the largest nation in Africa, and one of the poorest.  The volunteer linemen traveled to Yei to continue building the distribution system and bring power to a small settlement in this southern city.   What they didn’t expect was to bring back memories of a life-changing experience.

Three of the volunteers came from Boone Electric Cooperative (Columbia, MO).  Boone is a National Partner* of the NRECA Foundation and a strong supporter over the last several years.  The other two cooperatives that sent linemen, and also strong supporters, are Cuivre River Electric Cooperative (Troy, MO) and Valley Electric Cooperative (Pahrump, NV).  They both are Village Partners*.

The NRECA International Foundation would like to thank the co-ops and salute the linemen that helped make a real difference in the lives of 450 people in Yei, Sudan – those that benefited from their work.
